Synergy means 2 plus 2 equals 5. ----There is nothing we can’t achieve if we don’t care who gets the credit for it. ----Humankind’s greatest sin is anthropocentrism – where human life is valued above all other sentien Life. ---Phillip Wollen--- If you are interested in furthering the cause of voiceless creatures, the following is a list of simple ways you can make a difference:- * Adopt an animal from a shelter. Do NOT buy animals for pets. * Get in touch with a local shelter/group/organization, working for the welfare of animals. Keep their phone number and address handy *Start a NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH--Get together with a group of friends and keep track of the stray animals in your locality.(If possible, arrange for regular feeding) *Arrange for water bowls for animals in summer and in winter provide straw/ baskets/crates/cartons to help stray animals in your neighborhood to stay warm. * Keep track of injured, distressed or missing animals. *Inform your local shelter/group and facilitate medical aid to the injured or diseased animal. *Support and help in ABC and vaccinations programs conducted by the local animal welfare group. *Do not hesitate to report cases of animal abuse or neglect. *Volunteer at your local animal shelter/group/organization. *Find out the shelter’s ‘WISH LIST’ and donate items. *Make use of social networking sites. Post pictures of animals that are up for adoption, or in need of help. Thus forming a wide network of regular posts and updates. This often leads to an increased number of adoptions. *Post useful information about on-going efforts in the related areas. *Periodically check websites of major animal welfare organizations and find out about the latest campaigns. Sign up and receive action updates. *Read and collect information about animal welfare/rights/issues and legalities. *Visit and read information provided at the AWBI website. *EDUCATE people you know.
OTHER WAYS TO HELP
* If you are a vet, vet assistant, dog trainer, you can offer your services locally. A dog trainer can help to make animals more adoptable. *Some shelters need help in cleaning cages, picking up stray animals, computer work etc. * Periodically check websites of major animal welfare groups. Find out about volunteer opportunities. VOLUNTEER TO FOSTER ANIMALS FROM SHELTERS (esp. pups and kittens) TILL WE CAN FIND SUITABLE HOMES FOR THEM. THE SURVIVAL RATE OF YOUNG ANIMALS IN SHELTERS IS VERY LOW DUE TO INFECTION BY OTHERS UNDERGOING TREATMENT. Besides the above, there are numerous ways you can be of help. FOLLOW YOUR HEART…… EDUCATE –those around you FACILITATE- help and support the efforts being made by various animal welfare organizations. DONATE- time, effort, materials and money all are of importance.
