DARE FOR ANIMALS
We, the core members of D.A.R.E.Foundation have been actively involved in animal welfare for most of our lives. We officially began to function as a registered Society on 22nd November 2012 .Since then our achievements in the field of animal welfare have been recorded and documented on this site.We made a humble beginning as a group of four like minded and committed individuals , sharing a deep love and respect for non human species that share this wonderful planet with us. Our goal is to educate fellow human beings on the importance of preserving our environment and and all life forms that share it with us.We believe that we are not here to use and abuse life and natural resources but are here as guardians and care takers of the same.
We constantly strive to create awareness on issues related to animal abuse. One cannot expect to have a humane society, if cruelty to animals is ignored.
A human being is a part of the whole, called by us the “Universe,” a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separate from the rest – a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty. Nobody is able to achieve this completely, but the striving for such achievement is in itself a part of the liberation and a foundation for inner security.
—Albert Einstein (1879–1955)
Like us, all living creatures feel pain and fear. Unlike most of us, they are helpless against their tormentors and mute victims to human atrocities. ...jaw, claw, hoof or horn , a weak match against the ways men employ, to snuff out life.....to feed their greed for more.
Factory farms, slaughter houses, Animal testing and experimentation, Bull and Pit bull fighting poaching, use of animals as live bait....the list goes on...
The scale of the above horrors is unimaginable. It cannot vanish overnight. It is cruelty the world seems to have okayed, allowing it to happen... and grow freely.
How can we have a humane society if the above is treated with casual disregard?
Some drastic changes need to be made on personal and social levels.
Violence towards animals indicates danger to humans as well.
In fact some people choose to abuse animals only because they cannot do so with human beings. Documented records of individuals who have been committed for violent crimes, usually show a history of animal abuse. These people, struggling with serious psychological issues went unnoticed till they harmed a fellow human. Dismissing the issue of animal abuse would be a grave mistake. It does not take very long for an ‘animal offender’ to turn into a violent criminal. (Ted Bundy, Jeffery Dahmer, AlberDeSalvo” BostonStrangler” etc )
There is so much an animal can teach us, if we are willing to learn.....
As parents ,we are examples of compassion. Children emulate our behaviour. Possessing a careless attitude towards other living beings, or showing fear/dislike for certain species will most certainly rub off on our children as will cruelty and unmindful disregard towards other species.
On the other hand, when children grow up with pets, they are comfortable with animals.
Animals have always encouraged moral and personal development in children. This also brings social benefits to their communities .Scientific research has proved health benefits resulting from interaction with animals,
Studies have proven that having contact with a pet is very calming and soothing, and have backed up this conjecture with medical facts. Vital signs taken after an individual’s interaction with a pet show positive effects on the blood pressure, pulse, and breathing frequency, and the results of these tests are surprisingly similar to the body’s condition after deep meditation. Some studies have even indicated that having pets reduces stress and results in a lowered risk of heart disease.
. Dogs make great companions , provide a feeling of ‘wellbeing’ and are excellent antidepressants.
cats – have been used in some hospitals and nursing homes as a kind of therapy for the bedridden and ill. The warmth of their furry bodies and open, purring friendship can drastically influence a person’s state of mind for the better. A study conducted in the states of New York, Missouri, and Texas found that nursing homes that allowed pets had lower medication costs than those that didn’t.

Keeping an aquarium may be good therapy for you. Studies going back as far as the late 80’s have shown that gazing at aquarium fish reduces stress and subsequently lowers blood pressure.

Animals bring out the nurturing instinct in a child, helping them to understand the responsibility of owning a pet. (...here I would like to point out the fact that, in reality , it is the parents who are responsible for the animal, they allow the child to share in caring for pets.)
Theraputic and educational benefits have been identified, especially helpful to children with special needs. The calming effect of animals on children can help reduce stress, improve concentration and boost self esteem.
Educating our children how to better take care of animals is a good way to start dealing with the problem of animal abuse. There is no short cut to this goal. it must be ingrained in the education system . ‘Animal Welfare’ needs to be made a part of the school curricula.
Our children are the echoes of our voices into the future.....the keepers and preservers of that which is to come...projecting visions and values of the present age into the next.. It is, of utmost importance that we teach them lessons in kindness, and selflessness , not only towards human beings, but compassion for all living creatures and respect for life itself ...the kind that will last through the coming generations.....a nation built on compassion is a strong nation indeed.
